In this article, Yoga instructor Devon Jenelle shares a lower back stretch routine that can help alleviate pain and tension in the lower back. Lower back pain is a common issue that many people face, and practicing yoga can be an effective way to find relief. This routine specifically targets the lower back and aims to stretch and strengthen the muscles in that area.
Devon begins the routine by instructing the reader to lie down on their back, with their knees bent and feet flat on the floor.
The first pose in the routine is called the supine twist. It involves bringing one knee towards the chest, while the opposite hand holds it in place. The other arm is extended out to the side, while the head turns in the opposite direction.
Next, Devon guides the reader into a reclined hamstring stretch. This involves extending one leg up towards the ceiling, while keeping the other leg bent. The extended leg is then guided towards the head, using a strap or a towel for support. This pose targets the hamstrings and can also help to relieve tension in the lower back.
Following the reclined hamstring stretch, Devon moves on to the reclined pigeon pose. This pose is similar to the traditional pigeon pose, but it is done on the back instead of in a seated position. The leg that is being stretched is crossed over the bent knee of the other leg, and the hands are interlaced behind the thigh. This pose helps to open up the hips and stretches the muscles in the lower back.
